Notes:
- The authors speculate that twins are at higher risk to suffer from Shaken Baby Syndrome.
- Three of the four cases involved premature births. Additional factors included complicating diseases, a large head in relation to body size and weak muscles.
- The authors experience is that this form of physical abuse is independent of socioeconomic factors.
- "Most of the parents admitted that the shaking was finally triggered by a situation where they could not meet their children's needs, evidenced mostly by inconsolable crying."
- The parents did not act with the intention to severely injure or kill the child.
