Christ as Prophet, Priest and King

  1. Prophet: First Advent, corresponds to Magi's gift of myrrh, which represents death.
    • Deuteronomy 18:15: The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him.
    • Matthew 13:57: But Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor.”
  2. Priest: Jesus is currently our High Priest. Corresponds to Magi's gift of frankincense.
    • Hebrews 6:20: Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
  3. King: Second Advent, corresponds to Magi's gift of gold.
    • Revelation 17:14: They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings — and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”
