Appearances of the Primeval Light (Shekinah Glory)

  1. "Let there be light."
    • Genesis 1:3: And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
  2. Exit of Eden, flaming swords
    • Genesis 3:24: After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
  3. Smoking furnace, blazing torch
    • Genesis 15:17: When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces.
  4. Burning bush
    • Exodus 3:2: There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.
  5. Ninth plague
    • Exodus 10:23: No one could see anyone else or leave his place for three days. Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived.
  6. Pillar of cloud, pillar of fire
    • Exodus 13:21: By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.
  7. Sinai
    • Exodus 19:18: Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the LORD descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, the whole mountain trembled violently...
    • Exodus 24:17: To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
  8. Filled the temple
    • 2 Chronicles 5:14: And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple of God.
  9. Departed from the Temple
    • Ezekiel 10:4: Then the glory of the LORD rose from above the cherubim and moved to the threshold of the temple. The cloud filled the temple, and the court was full of the radiance of the glory of the LORD.
  10. Shepherds at Bethlehem
    • Luke 2:9: An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
  11. Mount of Transfiguration
    • Matthew 17:2: There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.
  12. Pentecost
    • Acts 2:3: They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
  13. Paul on the road to Damascus
    • Acts 9:3: As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.
  14. New Jerusalem
    • Revelation 21:23: The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
