Some Basic Principles

Correct doctrine is important to God.
- 2 Timothy 4:3-4: For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
- Titus 2:1: You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.
We are entrusted with the secret things of God. We are stewards of His mysteries.
- Psalm 25:14: The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.
- 1 Corinthians 4:1: So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God.
Human knowledge is foolishness to God.
- 1 Corinthians 3:19: For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight.
- Isaiah 55:8: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.
First mention. When something is unclear, study its first mention in Scripture.
Nothing in Scripture is irrelevant. When things do not appear to make sense, there are treasures to be found.
