Dictation Sentences from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Level E: Lists 37-47

List 37

  1. My little girl got more and more upset every day.
  2. Everyone will be buying candy bars in hope of finding one.
  3. Charlie didn’t say anything.
  4. “You’d better go ahead and open it up, or you’ll be late for school,” Grandpa Joe said.
  5. Suddenly, he did a funny little skipping dance in the snow.
  6. The old man was sitting in the back and little Charlie Bucket was right beside him.
  7. Everything is made of glass so that you can see out.

List 38

  1. In the summertime, this wasn’t too bad, but in the winter, it was awful.
  2. Everything he did now, he did slowly and carefully.
  3. Aren’t they wonderful, they way they get those nuts out?
  4. We’re going to the most wonderful place in the world!
  5. “Make this awful thing stop!” said the man.
    “Can’t do that,” said Mr. Wonka. “It won’t stop until we get there.”

List 39

  1. What on earth’s going to happen to them now?

List 40

  1. Twice a day, on his way to and from school, little Charlie Bucket had to walk right past the gates. And every time he went by, he would begin to walk very, very slowly, and he would hold his nose high in the air and take long deep sniffs.
  2. They loved this little boy. He was the only bright thing in their lives, and his evening visits were something they looked forward to all day long.
  3. “You’d better go ahead and open it up, or you’ll be late for school,” Grandpa Joe said.
    “You might as well get it over with,” Grandpa George said.
    “Open it, my dear,” Grandma Georgina said. “Please open it. You’re making me jumpy.”
  4. Come and look at this, everybody! The kids’ found the last one! There it is! It’s right there in his hands!
  5. I’ll get it right one day, you wait and see.
  6. And now, very slowly, the screen began to get brighter and brighter.
    “Here he comes!” yelled Mr. Wonka. “Yes, that’s him all right!”
    “Is he all in one piece?” cried Mrs. Teavee.
    “I’m not sure,” said Mr. Wonka. “It’s too early to tell.”
  7. It was a strange feeing to be standing on clear glass high up in the sky. It made you feel that you weren’t standing on anything at all.

List 41

  1. For the next few days, he would allow himself only to look at it, but never to touch it.
  2. “Charlie, dear,” Mrs. Bucket called out from where she was standing, “it’s time for bed. That’s enough for tonight.”
    “But mother, I must hear….”
    “Tomorrow, my dear….”
    “That’s right,” said Grandpa Joe, “I’ll tell you the rest of it tomorrow evening.”
  3. Everything that Charlie touched seemed to be made of ice.
  4. His feet didn’t seem to be touching the ground at all.
  5. Off he went, running through the snow as fast as his legs would go.
  6. He called out, “Welcome, my little friends! Welcome!”
  7. I can’t get it for you this second. I’ll see you have one before the day is out.
  8. She’s still quite young. It’s not too late.
  9. Down he went, just as his wife had done before him.
  10. There’s even less time to lose now than there was before.
  11. Faster! Faster! If we don’t go any faster than this, we shall never get through!
  12. They can all help to run it until Charlie is old enough to do it himself.

List 42

  1. Then one afternoon, his eye was caught suddenly by a piece of paper in the snow.
  2. “Mr. Wonka doesn’t seem to think so!” cried Mrs. Gloop. “Just look at him! He’s laughing his head off!”
  3. They’re always laughing! They think everything’s a joke! Jump in, all of you! Come on!
  4. “Anything to eat?” cried Charlie, laughing. “Oh, you just wait and see!”

List 43

  1. During the next two weeks, the weather turned very cold. It began very suddenly one morning.
  2. “I’m going to be sick!” she yelled, turning green in the face.

  1. Three days went by, and we had no luck. Oh, it was terrible! My little girl got more and more upset each day. She would lie for hours on the floor, kicking and yelling. On the evening of the fourth day, one of my women workers yelled, “I’ve got it! A Golden Ticket!” And I said, “Give it to me, quick!”
  2. She stopped dead in the middle of the room and stood staring at the place where her son had been.
  3. I have something very important to talk to you about.

List 45

  1. He told all the workers he was sorry, but they would have to go home.
  2. You’ll have to hurry!
  3. Hurry up, everybody!
  4. I’ve always been lucky so far.

List 47

  1. People in the town stopped and stared. “What’s going on?” they cried.
  2. In the mornings, he left the house ten minutes earlier so that he could walk slowly to school, without ever having to run.
  3. This is the center of everything, the heart of the whole business! And so beautiful! In we go, then! But do be careful, my dear ones! Don’t lose your heads!
  4. Don’t drink it outdoors! There’s no knowing how high up you’ll be carried if you do that.
