Abstract
Notes:
- This study includes 26 cases of infantile acute subdural hematoma with apparently mild impact to the head, no loss of consciousness, and a solid or liquid hematoma.
- None of the patients had a significant medical history or were subjects of child abuse previously.
- The most common cause was a fall backward while sitting or standing and hitting the head against a soft item such as a Japanese tatami mat.
- The period between head trauma and the onset of convulsions was from several seconds to an hour.
- All 26 patients had retinal hemorrhages.
- The majority of patients presented with a complaint of generalized convulsions occurring soon after apparently mild head trauma and had retinal and preretinal hemorrhage.
