Possible Procedures

• Students have already been exposed to most of these words orally.
• Say I am a girl. I'm a girl. Students repeats both sentences. Indicate short and long with hand signals.
• If student can read, write I am on the board. Erase the a and substitute the apostrophe. Repeat for all contractions.
• Ask questions. Indicate contraction (shortened form) with hand signals. Work until fluent.
