Getting Started: Setting Up the Classroom

Some basic things to try to locate for the classroom might include.

• Computer station and software
• Language Master
• Blank language master cards
• Headphones
• Cassette tape recorder
• Blank cassette tapes
• Pictures of anything and everything! Some sources are:
  • Magazines
  • Old catalogs
  • Getting Ready to Read books
  • Old readers and discarded textbooks
  • Special education resource center
  • Dairy Council materials (food pictures)
• An "object box" filled with realia of all kinds (two of a kind if possible for work on plurals). Challenge the class to scrounge for common items to put in the box--rocks, leaves, pencils, matches, keys, cotton, wood, metal, etc.

The E.S.L. teacher can provide workbooks and materials, both to be consumed and checked out.
