Porcupine Explosion
June 4, 2004
On the first summer trip to Swede lake, our young guests twice found porcupines munching on our new bunkhouse. Dennis shot the first one outside, but the second one was in the shed. It exploded, sending quills into the ceiling, the walls, the lumber, and all over the gravel floor. A single quill in a dog's foot can kill it, so we spent part of every other trip picking up quills, some 34,000 of them. Did you know porcupines are born fully quilled? (In a sack, to protect the mother.)
