Too Much Wind
March 12-13, 2003
We sold our original Cessna 172 to get out of debt, and since then have gone through a variety of replacements, none of which really did the job for us. After a lot of looking we found a Cessna 172 with a 180 horsepower engine on floats, wheels, and skis that we could afford.
A flight instructor from southern California traded us cabin time at the lake for Susan's float flying lessons. What a beautiful place to practice!
We were extremely fortunate that our plane escaped the fate of the ones in the pictures. Winter didn't arrive until March, when hurricane force winds from the north totally destroyed dozens of airplanes tied down near ours at Lake Hood. If we had not purchased the plane, it's likely the tiedown ropes on it would have snapped and the previous owner would have lost it.
